The Department of Behavioral Health & Intellectual disAbilities Services and Mental Health First Aid offer three tracks to become an Instructor:

  • Track One: Training of Instructors. This is the track where you go to the instructor class.  This class is 5 days, 8 hours each day.  To go this route, the panel of interviewers believe you understand DBHIDS’s Core Values and have the capacity and experiences to facilitate classes well.
  • Track Two: Two Pre-Requisite Courses along with the TOI Class. DBHIDS offers two pre-requisite courses that will teach you history about DBHIDS’ Transformation Decade, the Core Values that DBHIDS strives to uphold each and every day, and an overview of the Practice Guidelines.  Day two will consist of honing your skills as a facilitator. Once those two days are completed you will then go to the week long Training of Instrcutors, described above, which will be taught by National Council for Behavioral Health.
  • Track Three: One Pre-Requisite Course and the Training of Instructors (TOI) Course. This track will teach you about the DBHIDS Transformation Decade, the Core Values that DBHIDS strives to uphold each and every day, and an overview of the Practice Guidelines.  You will not be required to have a review of faciliation skills, as with Track Two. Once this day is over, you will proceed to the 5 day TOI course.
